Applications are open for the post of Secretary-General of the 22nd session of London International Model United Nations: 2022

About the Role

The Secretary-General will recruit and lead an organising team for LIMUN's flagship conference and other year-round activities. They maintain overall responsibility for the successful delivery of the 2021-22 calendar and will report to the Foundation's Board of Trustees while serving on the Board for a one-year term, in an ex-officio capacity.

The Secretary-General will be responsible for shaping their vision for the conference and working with their Secretariat to deliver this. They must provide clear frameworks and timelines for the Secretariat and other volunteers to successfully carry out their duties. The role will also involve ensuring logistics and academic aspects are well covered, overseeing the financial health of the event, and successfully maintaining relationships with a wide range of external stakeholders, including delegates, partners, speakers, and internal stakeholders such as other project teams and the Board.

A successful Secretary-General would deliver a year that is well-received by delegates, enjoyable for all internal LIMUN volunteers and provides a sustainable framework for the future of the Foundation. Candidates with plans for engaging with external stakeholders and improving access to MUN will be favourably considered.

Previous MUN experience is required.

Expected Attributes

This role requires a diligent, self-motivated and collaborative individual. They will have likely had previous MUN Secretariat experience, although this is not a requirement. The ideal candidate would be able to draw on their experience from other leadership positions and be able to effectively manage interpersonal relationships. Applicants' previous experiences should display drive, commitment, and a willingness to learn and adapt, even in difficult circumstances. Moreover, the Foundation is looking for someone with a genuine passion for MUN who can articulate a coherent, well-considered vision to make LIMUN even better - whether that is increasing diversity and access, developing relationships with external stakeholders, or creating new non-conference initiatives. Please note that applicants must be able to attend regular in-person meetings in London.

LIMUN’s university conference started in 2000 and has become the largest university-level conferences in Europe and a gold-standard for MUN academics globally. Our conference normally attracts over a thousand delegates, who come from all over the world, to London for our quality debate, legendary socials and the chance to meet with people from around the world. We have been privileged to welcome high-profile guest speakers to our Opening Ceremonies and have had the honour of using well-known and famous venues. But every year we work with the Secretariat to deliver a new, and often better, iteration of our flagship conference. The Foundation is also increasingly expanding its non-conference activities. In 2020, LIMUN launched several online initiatives that included the world's first integrated debate and training platform for MUN and a dialogue series with the United Nations Secretary-General's UN75 campaign to mark the organisation's 75th anniversary. We hope that over the coming years LIMUN will continue to expand these offerings, providing a platform for university students to engage with the United Nations on a year-round basis.
