Committees and Topics

The following committees will be simulated at the 3rd London International Model United Nations: High School, 2018.

  • United Nations Security Council (UNSC)

The Security Council is a main organ of the United Nations, tasked with primary responsibility over international peace and security. This committee will have up to 15 delegates.

  • Historical Security Council (HSC)

The Historical Security Council will place delegates in a historical scenario, dealing with issues of international peace and security during the Cold War. This committee will have up to 15 delegates. The study guide is available here.

Committee room: G75

  • Disarmament and International Security (DISEC)

This is a subsidiary committee of the United Nations General Assembly, dealing with disarmament and threats to international peace and security. The committee will have up to 35 delegates.

Committee room: G79

  • United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)

The Council is a subsidiary body of the United Nations General Assembly, that addresses thematic issues relating to human rights as well as specific country situations. This committee will have up to 35 delegates.

Topic: Eradication of poverty and examining the effectiveness of the Sustainable Development goals in achieving this

  • United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

This Programme is dedicated to sustainable development and poverty eradication. The committee will have up to 35 delegates.

Topic: State capacity in response to natural disasters and crises

  • Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)

This Council is dedicated to effective economic policies and general social advancement. The committee will have up to 35 delegates.

Topic: Sustainable financing of socio-economic development in LDC countries

  • United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)

This Programme is dedicated to sustainable environmental policies and discussions. The committee will have up to 35 delegates.

Topic: The prevention of illegal international trafficking of toxic and dangerous products

  • United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)

The United Nations Children's Fund principally deals with the protections of the rights of children globally. This committee will have up to 35 delegates. 

Topic: Supporting the reintegration of children in Yemen and Syria

Committee room: B5 Auditorium 

  • World Health Organization (WHO)

The World Health Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations dedicated to promoting international public health. This committee will have up to 21 delegates.

Topic: Developing a global framework for the integration of technology in public and private healthcare

  • United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)

The Unied Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization is a specialised agency of the United Nations dedicated to promoting peace through education, scientific collaboration and intercultural understanding. The committee will have up to 28 delegates.

  • Crisis Committees

Crisis Committees aim to challenge delegates to deal with an ongoing crisis, which develops as time unfolds and in accordance with how delegates respond to given situations. The format is very different from regular committees.
